Kitty Express
One of the ways Robin’s Nest helps our communities control their cat over-population problem is through our Kitty Express™ program.Throughout each year, Robin’s Nest receives calls from animal management facilities asking for help with their over-population problem. We accommodate them on a regular basis by intaking pregnant cats and abandoned kittens and placing them with one of our foster families. When the kittens are ready, they receive their final medical checks and are placed in one of our partner stores and
advertised for adoption.
However, during peak times, mostly during the Spring and early Summer months, everyone becomes very over-populated. Our regular fosters are full, and we do not have the capacity to intake when it is needed most. The animal management facilities are overflowing and the calls to us become frantic as their numbers rise. This is the time when animals are euthanized for space.
Robin’s Nest has developed the “Kitty Express” program to help with this problem. Our kittens tend to be adopted quickly because we have a strong marketing team, we are in several partner stores providing constant viewing by potential adopters and we have an excellent reputation as a source for healthy cats. In most cases, we can quickly move these kittens from a high-risk situation into a home with a loving family.
Our Kitty Express program works like this:
A participating animal management facility makes sure that kittens available for this program have already received their first vaccines and received parasite and flea control, which is usually standard procedure upon intake. A second vaccine will be given 15-21 days later.
All of the kittens in the program must be old enough for a spay/neuter and in good health.
We reserve enough spay/neuter appointments for the Kitty Express kittens and make sure we have open cages in our partner stores for them and, if needed, have short-term fosters on standby to allow the kittens to recover from their surgery.
We pick up the kittens, take them directly to our partner clinic and move them quickly into the adoption process, all within 72 hours in most cases.
