The mission of Robin’s Nest of Indy is to provide a safe and healthy environment for homeless pregnant cats and kittens and a chance for them to find a forever home with a loving and committed family.
While we take some surrenders from the public, in many cases, we receive these cats and kittens from animal management facilities and humane societies because they will likely not survive in these settings due to their vulnerability to disease and the special care they need (particularly the orphan kittens). This is especially true for facilities in more rural counties surrounding Indianapolis, who often do not have the staff or the resources to provide this special care. As word of our activities has spread, we have received requests to intake cats from other outlying counties as much as 100 miles or more away.
Cats and kittens are placed in a foster care home, where they can live in an environment similar to their eventual adopted home but still receive a high level of medical care and constant monitoring of their condition. Some of our over foster caregivers are accomplished bottle feeders, some handle pregnancies and delivery, some are talented at socializing kittens born outside and some have other skills for special situations, but all of them provide the love and attention the animals need. The kittens and other cats receive necessary vaccines and routine parasite control medications. If they are injured or sick, we work to restore them to health.
If kittens are skittish or scared as a result of their life before kittens came to us, we work on making them comfortable being around people and other animals. When kittens are ready for adoption, they will be spayed or neutered, placed in one of our pet store partner facilities so potential adopters can meet them and advertised on social media. Potential adopters are interviewed so we can match each cat with a great forever home.
